It is shaped like a djembe and if you already play the djembe you won’t have to relearn and get used to the unusual construction of the cajon. At the same time, the striking surface (what cajonists call tapa) is made of wood, with a fixed string under it, which gives the effect of a snare drum – something for which we appreciate the cajon sound so much.
